About Me

Hello. My name is Jillian, and I am the artist behind the quilts of Refine and Shine Design. I began teaching myself to quilt in 2005 after graduating with a master’s degree in fine art. After six years of studying drawing, painting, and printmaking on the college and graduate levels, I found myself just wanting to quilt, and I have been quilting ever since.

I love design elements such as color, texture, and pattern. As a graduate student I had the privilege to teach Introduction to Two-Dimensional Design to undergraduate students. This fueled my desire to quilt. Shortly after graduation I began teaching art to adults with disabilities in an amazing day program dedicated to the arts. There I helped many individuals of all abilities design and create quilts from start to finish. I believe no matter what your ability or experience, if you have the desire, you can quilt and refine your skills.

Quilt Patterns for sale

I began designing quilt blocks for sale in 2021 while in the process of making custom quilts for my children. My quilt patterns are inspired by my interests and the interests of those closest to me. My current quilt themes include music, sports, and animals.
